What Is 'The Great Gatsby?

The Great Gatsby, is a wonderful story which confusingly follows the main character Nick. Usually everything always revolves around the main character as every action and thought taken by this character always seem to affect the story one way or another. However, here in The Great Gatsby, Nick is an uneventful person, a boring, dull person, who always seem to be the third-wheel every time he's with the other side characters, Daisy Buchannan, Tom Buchannan, Myrtle Wilson, Jordan Baker, and most importantly of all Jay Gatsby. This however is very intentional as Nick did not willingly join their massive drama but rather was pulled into it.

What Makes This Book So Appealing

There was very few things that I can every say made such a massive impression on me, ever in my entire life and this character right here can be counted on such tiny list. This character Jay Gatsby had me thinking throughout the entire time story. I both hated and loved his character, Gatsby always seemed like a fool to me, him trying to fit in with Old Money, him creating a fake persona hiding the true him, him trying to prove that he's worth so much to those around, pretty much everything about him is something I despised.

However, knowing that everything he had done, all the corrupt actions he caused were all for one single, pure reason.

“He looked at her the way all women want to be looked at by a man.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby.

That no matter what he is willing to put up with all the embarrassment, lower all his pride, his everything, all due to his love for Daisy. Love is something I love reading about thus had caused me to root for him, hoping that all of his efforts will not be in vain. Yet, even when times had gooney south; even though Gatsby knows destruction was inevitable he still tries his very best to hold on to his dream, his love. His actions had constantly reminded me exactly what a hero would do. Maybe this is why I could not stop thinking about Gatsby. His dream was so pure; so bright that no matter what you just could not ignore it. It was just like a bright, beautiful pure heroic dream is, no matter how you try and angle it.

Conclusion

Overall, The Great Gatsby will truly be a memorable book that resonates with me throughout all my life, especially the character Gatsby. Gatsby is the type of character that I mostly look for in everyone I can meet. Having such a pure and incorruptible dream, especially love towards the right person as it can allow someone achieve so many things. Afterall, Gatsby was able to achieve everything he had all for the sake of giving it a present to Daisy. He did all that just for the sake of it being a 'present' to Daisy. If he wanted too he could've gotten her something very expensive and would have swoon her heart. Yet he didn't; all due to the fact that Daisy means so much to Gatsby. This same exact meaning is something I wish someone could showcase towards me. Overall, The Great Gatsby was a rollercoaster of both emotions and thoughts, a wild ride that I truly recommend everyone to read. Afterall...

“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby.
